Golf Muscles – Timing – Golf Mechanics: The Key To A Powerful Golf Swing

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Golf swing power is truly sought after by many golfers short and tall. A powerful golf swing can be easily accomplished if you’re standing 6ft tall over the golf ball. Knowing the right mechanics of the golf swing, along with the right timing is essential. If you take two golfers of the same height, the exact same swing, same golf club and ball, the results in distance would probably be the same. If you take the same scenario and one golfer is approximately 6ft. tall, and the other approximately 5ft. tall, the advantage would be to the taller person. You’re probably saying, no kidding Sherlock. A taller person creates a longer and bigger swing span, which in turn generates more club head speed. Unleashing a huge drive can be monstrous if all golf mechanics and timing are in sync for a fairly tall person. So how does a shorter golfer stand to compete?

The answer would probably lie in the golf muscles of a shorter golfer. It doesn’t necessarily mean you have to go out and bench press 400 lbs everyday. By exercising your upper and lower golf muscles two or three times a week, you can make a world of difference. The golf muscles that need to be exercised would be the legs, thighs, and whole upper portion of the body. The upper portions of the body are the main coil of the golf swing, with the arms and wrist getting the most exercise. As these same muscles are used most to guide and control the weight of the golf club through the motion of the golf swing. The lower portion of the body is strengthened to reinforce the upper portion of the golf swing. There are many books and videos on the Internet that address these exercises.

Golfers that prefer to exercise outdoors and are not sure of the appropriate exercises to use should take the exercise out on the practice range hitting golf balls. By hitting golf balls at the practice range, you will be exercising the important golf muscles naturally, and greatly improve your golf swing at the same time. Have you heard of golf muscle memory? It is a part of the brain that remembers a movement. Putting it another way, have you felt a muscle say, stop right there? This same part of the brain will tell moving parts of your body how far you can take it, so you do not injure yourself. It also signals for the timing of certain muscles to kick in and take over, if your latter part of the brain were paying attention. It would also remember good habits and bad habits in the golf swing. One must be careful in their practice routine on avoiding the bad habits. Practicing regularly will exercise these certain muscles and train them for further swing improvement in proper moves and timing. Your golf muscles will take the golf mechanics and timing to a higher level of power by exercising them over and over again.

With regular exercise and practicing the golf mechanics and timing of the golf swing, both short and tall players can compete on the same level. To out distance your taller competitors, it would help to pack a few extra pounds of golf muscle behind your golf swing. The same would apply for the taller golfer to stay ahead of the crowd.

Baseball – Approach To Hitting – The Situation

Wednesday, March 11th, 2009

In this last of our two part series on the approach to hitting a baseball, we’ll go over what is probably the most important part of a player’s approach and that is how he handles the various situations that will come up during the course of a baseball game. The really good hitters will us the same approach for each situation and will not deviate from it. This is what makes them consistent and the top players in the game. Since there are countless situations in the game, we’re not going to try to cover them all but just try to give you an idea of what is involved with adjusting to each one.

The most common situation for a batter leading off the inning is that he is batting with nobody on base. In this situation he will use his normal approach. If he is a contact hitter then he will simply try to get on base. If he is a power hitter then he will try to hit for a home run as he usually does. This is assuming the score is tied or there is no score.

But what if a team is down by two runs going into the bottom of the ninth inning and the first person up is your clean up hitter? His hitting of a home run is not going to get the game tied up. In this case it is more important that he get on base. In this situation your power hitter will probably choke up on the bat more, cut down on his swing and just try to get on base. This is good situational hitting.

Another common situation is when a batter comes up with a runner on first. If he is not a strong hitter, in this situation what he will try to do is hit the ball to the right side of the infield. Even if he doesn’t get a hit, if he manages to hit the ball between first and second base, he has a good chance of advancing the runner over to second base so that he can score. To do this, the batter will probably look for an outside pitch and try to slap the ball to the right side. He may even open up his stance a little if he normally uses a closed stance.

Another common situation is when a batter comes up with a runner on third base and less than two outs. In this situation, the run can be driven in without the need for a hit. All the batter has to do is get the ball out of the infield on a fly. In this situation he will probably look for a high pitch that he can lift into the outfield deep enough to score the run. To do this he will hold the bat as far down the handle as he can to get as much power as possible. He will also close up his stance a little if he uses an open one.

These are just a few of the most common situations that will come up during a game. Being able to adapt to these situations is what separates the good hitters from the not so good.

Better Prostatic Health the Herbal Way

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

The healthcare industry term a swollen prostate benign prostate hyperplasia, or BPH. Put simply this entails that the prostate, a mass the shape of a walnut situated just under the bladder and enclosing the urethra, swells and can impair and even stop urinary flow. Certain Players Facing “Make Or Break” Season In 2006

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

The career of an NFL player can be a long and twisting road. There are no formulas for success and no tangible formulas for failure. However, every season, certain players have to know that if they don’t perform that year, their future earning potential could be seriously hampered to the point where they are either out of the league altogether or they must begin to view themselves as “journeymen” who will never sign that elusive enormous free agent contract that sets them up financially for life.

We’ve identified five such players whose situations will be most interesting in 2006. Surely there are more than five players in the NFL who must perform this season in order for their high earning potential to remain a real possibility, but we feel that these five present the most intriguing situations.

1. J.P. Losman

It seems awfully early for this year to be Losman’s make-or-break season, but the young QB is facing the possibility of being traded, released or being relegated to a long-term backup role if he doesn’t show improvement early in the 2006 season. The Bills gave up a lot to earn the right to draft Losman in 2004, and the team jettisoned established starter Drew Bledsoe last year to give Losman the opportunity to start. Losman struggled mightily, and was replaced by Kelly Holcomb. This offseason, the Bills signed Craig Nall from the Packers and currently have Holcomb listed at the top of the depth chart. Losman needs to grab hold of the job immediately and hold onto it, lest he be cast to the scrap heap.

2. Chad Pennington

Pennington was seen not long ago as the possible “next Joe Montana” given the similarities in style, statistics and leadership he appeared to have in common with the 49ers’ legend. However, his throwing shoulder was shredded twice, and his ability to stay healthy and viable in the long-term is in serious doubt. The Jets have a new coaching staff and have no prior commitment to Pennington, who needs to show that he is healthy and can be durable in order for him to stick with the Jets. If not, the team will almost assuredly look in a different direction for a QB.

3. Aaron Brooks

Brooks took the league by storm in 2000 when he lead the New Orleans Saints to the playoffs, and his career seemed destined for certain stardom at that time. Since then, his long-term outlook, as well as his play, has regressed dramatically. The Saints let him go after last season, and he was signed by the Raiders. The Saints replaced Brooks with Drew Brees, another QB with shoulder questions, and Brooks must perform with the Raiders in order to prevent his new team from turning to a young and promising QB currently sitting behind Brooks on the depth chart, Andrew Walter.

4. Jamal Lewis

Lewis was one of the most feared RBs in the NFL as recently as 2003, when he rushed for an astounding 2,066 yards. His career has taken a turn for the worse since then as a result of injuries, legal problems and a baffling decline in production. Lewis was a free agent after the 2005 season, but after getting no big-time offers, returned to the Ravens with a relatively modest one-year contract. Although Lewis doesn’t turn 27 until August, he has taken a beating in the NFL and must show that he can still carry the load if he’s to get a big payday in 2007.

5. Charles Rogers

Rogers was the second overall pick in the 2003 draft by the Detroit Lions, and he came into the league with enormous expectations. Since then he has done nothing but disappoint his team and their fans. Rogers has been hurt repeatedly, and played in only six games in his first two seasons. Not only has his health been questioned, as he broke his clavicle several times, but his work ethic has also been assailed by various officials associated with the team. The Lions have many other WRs on the roster who came into the league with the same expectations, and if Rogers doesn’t show something immediately, he may not even make it to training camp.

Over the course of history in the NFL, many players face the same situation in a given year as the five mentioned above. Some have seen the writing on the wall and excelled, and others have faded into the sunset. History also tells us that some of the players listed here will go on to successful careers and others will not. What is certain is that each of these situations bears watching in the coming weeks and months.

Boxing is Not Bashing

Monday, March 9th, 2009

I’ve been a boxing fan since my first Cassius Clay match against Sony Liston, which was literally in another century. Since then my love for the sport has never waned.

Since I’m a pretty peaceful person in daily life people who know me are surprised that I like boxing so much. Perhaps it’s just “displaced and sublimated aggression,” they suggest. Whatever. It’s all fine with me.

What I know is I do respect the one-on-one test that two super athletes go through every time they step into that ring. That’s the ultimate “moment of truth.” Once you are in that ring there are no excuses. No alibis. No nothing. It’s you against your body and mind against your opponent and against God and the whole world. It’s a tough moment like none other in life.

And having watched that terrible Boom Boom Mancini match some twenty-odd years ago in which his Korean opponent was actually killed (Mancini left boxing after that shock), I know that this “game” is actually serious business. It’s not like make-believe “professional wrestling.” So that makes me respect professional boxers even more.

However, within the last 10 years some entrepreneurs came up with various “fighting” categories as an “alternative” to boxing. They figured, “hey, this is the New Rome! Give them blood, and they’ll not only take it but they’ll also whip out their credit cards and pay for it right on the spot!” Which is true, up to a certain point.

But I can’t watch these new “fighting” matches for too long in which pretty much everything goes except eye gouging. It’s usually a very ugly sight that makes me feel ugly for watching it – the kind of feeling that I never get when I’m watching a championship boxing match.

After watching a boxing match I feel that I’ve watched something worthwhile and amazing to witness in which the better athlete won his due rewards fair and square.

After watching one of these new “fighting” contests I just get depressed. That’s why I do not watch them anymore.

First there was the “Strongman Contest” in which two males, whether athletes or not, were just released inside a cage. The “contest” ended when one of them gave up in a hurry. It was not pretty. I watched twice and never did it since.

Probably a lot of boxing fans reacted to the “Strongman” like I did since the “show” was canceled after a while.

These days we have a new breed of “fighting-in-a-cage” violence fest in which the brawlers are at least well-trained athletes wearing leather half-gloves. The matches are a mixture of boxing, kick boxing and “back alley violence.” I think head butts and eye gouging are “illegal” but the rest is fair game.

Gone is the ballet-like grace of regular boxing. Gone is the veneer of “organized sports” where a referee intervenes on all our behalf to make sure that the better athlete is determined with as little physical damage as possible to the contestants.

And how do you “analyze” a brawl in which there are few accumulating advantages (like “body shots”) that reveal their effects the way, let’s say, a knight move reveals its long-term impact ten moves down the road in a chess game?

Probably “fighting” will survive and prosper as far as the TV and box-office gross is concerned. It will probably do well as a niche “X-sport.” There will probably always be enough 18-to-24 year old beer-soaked males to support it as a business.

And true boxing fans like me who have known the sheer power, grace and the heart of an Ali, Sugar Ray, Hagler, Benitez, Duran, Holmes, Holyfield, Frazier or Hearns will continue to worry about the health of a noble sports category that may or may not survive into the future.

Save Your Free Child Trust Fund Voucher with Scottish Friendly, so Your Litte One Can Have a Large Lump Sum of Money when They Turn Eighteen

Monday, March 9th, 2009

Are you aware of the Child Trust Fund and its benefits? Few UK parents remarkably

modest number of parents appear to appreciate that all newborn children receive a free £250 voucher from the the State to invest. Your son or daughter’s vouchermay be invested in any one of threesorts of CTF account, Stakeholder – a shares-based account that swapsinto cash, a savings account or a shares account. It is an excellent way to save needs of a child

Scottish Friendly is a designated provider of the Child Trust Fund Voucher. The Government is keen for people to have access to Stakeholder accounts and this is the kind of account that we are supplying. This means that:

• Investments are saved into Scottish Friendly’s Managed Growth Fund, which seeks to provide good growth potential
• An investment is made partly in shares to get the benefit of potentially higher returns over 18 years, compared to a cash deposit account (although the value of shares cango down as well as increase whereas capital would be protected in a deposit account)
• It is available with a low ‘Stakeholder’ funds charge of only 1.5% per year
• When attaining the age of 18 the child will get a lump sum, completely free of Capital Gains and Income Tax under current law
• It’s affordable – extra payments can be placed in the account from as little as £10

An interesting feature of the Child Trust Fund is that anyone – parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, friends – may add to the Fund to a top limit of £1,200 per year to help increase the child’s Fund (once added, this money is not allowed to be withdrawn).

In a nutshell our Stakeholder account provides a good balance between potentially high returns and a lower level of risk. There’s also the extra assurance that our account is in accordance with with the Government’s stakeholder criteria. Nonetheless this doesn’t mean that returns are assured or that Stakeholder accounts are appropriate for everyone. Bear in mind that the value of shares in the Managed Growth Fund (where your Child Trust Fund money is invested) can go down as well as rise and isn’t guaranteed.

Only children who were born on or after 1st September 2002 are allowed to open a Child Trust Fund. If you have children born before the {1st of September 2002 who are not qualified you could consider investing for them with a Child Bond – it’s a tax-free savings plan looking for long-term growth. It is undoubtedly the case that investing for your children is a sound means of preparing for tomorrow.
