Poker Foods

Poker players need sustenance; it’s a simple fact of nature. The type of sustenance that you serve is where you can shine. You want poker to be the main focus, so if you’re hosting a poker party, try to serve foods that require as little thought as possible. Finger foods that don’t make a mess and light foods that won’t leave you stuffed are great for this sort of thing. Here are some examples:
Sandwich triangles are perfect. We usually make a variety of sandwiches (Peanut butter and Jelly, Ham and cheese, Turkey, Club, whatever), slice off the crust, and cut eat sandwich into four triangles. Stick a toothpick into each one and you’re good to go.
Veggies and dip are great. You can pick up these platters anywhere and they’re not as greasy and messy as chips and dip or (Heaven forbid) nachos, and they’re a bit healthier too.
Remember “Ants on a Log”. When we were kids, my mom would cut celery into four-inch pieces, fill them with peanut butter (the log), and put some raisins on the peanut butter (the ants). I know it sounds weird, but you’ve got to try it. Mmmm…
These are just a few hints to get you started, but with a little creativity and planning, you can get your fill without getting in the way of your poker game.
