My Shiny New Home Alarm Systems

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

I have been surfing for a security systems for 10 days now and I finally stumbled into a home alarm device that seems to fit my bungelow, my husband and kids and our lifestyle.

We explored a lot of different alarm companies to learn the cheapest selection as opposed to the most expensive choice. I must say, that I was very happy with most of the websites we faced at but one stood out to us and that was FamilyHomeSecurity.com. Their security system info was fantastic, eye opening and edifying. I wish they were a company that put in protection systems themselves because I know it would be done meticulously and with lots of attending to cleanliness.

What made it a deep experience? Well, we experienced a break-in 10 weeks ago that wasn’t very fun. Fortuitously, we were outside of town and they solely got jewelry and coins. Now there are small fry in the home and a mass more precious stuff like computing machines, electronics, and above all – family and family memories and pic. We simply preferred to find the foremost security system that we could all employ and feel fail-safe with. It was unquestionably time to find one this day.

So, how did I obtain the right home security system? We started up by looking ’security system’ on the search engines, then ranged nonstop entirely of the internet sites on the basic page. A plenty of them were trash…and I was sorry about that. Everybody I recognize says Yahoo is the easiest…in any event, later on searching through those web sites we couldn’t determine what we were waiting for. We didn’t wish a serious sales procedure and we didn’t want to guess lots about it. Nearly all of these internet sites were abrasive sales pitches – I wanted info!

Most of the corporations we considered were GE, Brinks, APX, ADT and Pinnacle. All of them look to habituate standardized home alarm systems…and we lastly ended up with a Pinnacle Security system after reviewing the serious info received at homesecurityguru and Family Home Security.

It’s nice to consider tremendous advisory internet sites out there on the matter of home security.

Enjoy the search for a great alarm system!

The Father Of Virtual Real Estate Investing Comments On His Industry

Saturday, December 20th, 2008

Virtual Real Estate Investing” is a relatively new concept. There are many variations on what this term means, encompassing everything from using the internet to aid in real estate investing efforts to participating in online games such as SecondLife.

To find out the real story, I had a conversation with Bryan Ellis, widely considered to be one of the originators of the concept of Virtual Real Estate Investing.

When I began using the term virtual real estate investing in the late 1990s, I did so because I saw clear parallels between the strategies used for profiting from physical real estate and those that would create income in the online world, said Ellis.

An example of the similar nature of “virtual” and “physical” real estate Bryan Ellis likes to point out is the methods of making a profit from domain names compared to physical real estate. He points out that control of a domain name or even a specific web page is much like controlling a real estate property ” those assets can be monetized in similar ways: By selling them for a profit, by leasing them, by offering advertising, etc.

The parallels really are obvious. For example, if you’re the owner of a desirable property, its desirability is (in a business context) largely due to its being in a location that is of interest to others. Likewise, if you own a desirable domain name, others will find value in it because it serves their purposes. So it doesn’t matter if you own physical real estate or virtual real estate – you’ll likely use similar strategies to turn them into money in your pocket.

In our next installment of this series on virtual real estate investing., Bryan Ellis will share the internet analogies to the physical concept of real estate development.

Affiliate Tips and Tricks

OK, so you’ve set up an account with a reputable affiliate manager and you want to know how to increase sales and make more money with Clickbank. There are a few important things to keep in mind when trying to determine this.

Each product is listed in the directory by ranks. The product that is in the top position is the number one selling product for their category. Obviously, if you are selling a product, you will want that top position. That means affiliates are selling for you, and you don’t have to do a thing. You can sit back and let your affiliates do all the work.

However, Clickbank is slightly mysterious in trying to explain how to raise your ranking (possibly on purpose) so here are a few tricks and tips to bring up your rank on Clickbank.

1. Pay your affiliates well. Guess what? You can make a lot more money with other affiliates spending their time marketing your site. Pay them well – usually 40 to 60 percent of each sale. 2. Include easy to use marketing tools from The Traffic Toolchest: articles, email signatures, full color banners, auto responder messages, etc. 3. Make sure you are marketing to the list of people who bought anything from you. Don’t over sell them, but make sure they are receiving monthly emails about RELATED products that might interest them. 4. Keep in touch with your affiliates. Create an opt-in page on your affiliate page so you can keep in touch with them through newsletters or emails. 5. Sales Contests! Give your highest selling affiliate a gift prize. Word will get passed around and more and more affiliates will sign up to sell your product. My marketing friends are always running testimonial contests. If you send us a testimonial, then you’ll have a chance to win big prize. This is a great way to get testimonials.

Remember to treat everyone with respect. I know many people who were auto mechanics yesterday, but today, they are internet marketers. If you treated them right, they might want to sell your product on their page. Do whatever it takes to help someone out because they may be sending money your way. That’s the bottom line: We’re here to provide a quality product or service that equals money in BOTH of our pockets.

PSP – Game or Brick ?

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

The extremely popular PlayStation Portable game device has become the latest target of malicious software writers, with the discovery of a “Trojan horse” program that renders the machines inoperable.

PSP is specially designed to run only approved programs and games but unauthorised codes or patches can be downloaded to bypass these restrictions. The newly discovered malicious software, or “malware”, poses as just such an illicit patch. The problem is that, once installed, it deletes four critical system files, rendering the infected device useless.
Researchers at antivirus firm Symantec say the Trojan, dubbed Trojan.PSPBrick, was found circulating on gaming web sites last week.

PSP users who unwittingly install it will see the message “Your PSP 2.0 is hacked, please reboot” pop up on the screen of their console. However, efforts to restart the gadget are likely to end in frustration.
“It’s a really nasty trick,” says Mikko Hyppnen, director of antivirus research at Finnish company F-Secure. He believes there is no way to remedy an infected machine without taking it for costly repairs. “A hacker as destructive as this obviously isn’t thinking straight.”

So basically once this malicious software has been installed you’ve got yourself an extremely expensive “brick” which could be used to build your dream house!

Because He’s Unpopular, Bush Is Capable Of Anything!

Saturday, August 16th, 2008

There’s something known as political capital.

If you have an electoral mandate as a President, where sixty percent of the voters cast their ballots for you, then you can insist on pressing your agenda in the legislature, and those lesser officials must bend to your will.

So says conventional wisdom.

Bush never had such a mandate, though he acted as if he had.

Now, he’s so unpopular, with poll ratings about as low as Lyndon Johnson suffered through, that you would think Bush is a not just a lame duck, but a dead one, politically.

Don’t believe it.

W might take dramatic preemptive military action against Iran precisely BECAUSE he’s so unpopular. After all, what does he have to lose if he de-fangs an imminently nuclear adversary?

Leaving office with his tail between his legs won’t do his political party any good, and it will almost certainly embolden the Democrats, virtually assuring them a victory in 2008.

But becoming the equivalent of a “Give ‘Em Hell Harry” Truman as he departs from center stage might earn him some accolades, if not before today’s audiences, before tomorrow’s.

Look for Bush to cash in his negatives and do something seemingly improbable, even if it means significantly expanding the theater of war in the Middle East.

After Studying Spanish For Years You Cannot Progress Beyond A Certain Stage-What’s Wrong With You?

Friday, August 15th, 2008

THE WRONG APPROACH

Did you know that the teaching methodology accounts for over 90% of the students’ success or failure in learning a second language effectively?

In other words, it’s not your fault if you have not been able to achieve your goals so far. Most likely, the kind of work you’ve been doing may be the one to blame.

Most language courses revolve around grammar and vocabulary drills which result in nothing but frustration and the feeling that “you are not cut out to learn Spanish.”

Those courses focus so much on students’ errors, that they cause you to lose confidence and drastically reduce your oral fluency in the language by “punishing” you any time you use the language.

It is common in these settings to find students mentally struggling with patterns and structures before making any single utterance, for fear of being corrected, told they are wrong or even ridiculed.

This sad but nevertheless real situation produces two main results:

a) many students cannot put up with the mental stress and frustration and drop out their Spanish courses with the feeling they are not up to the challenge of acquiring Spanish as “this is a very hard language to learn.”

b) Other students keep working hard even for years, but still cannot progress beyond a certain level and start to feel stuck. Many start to question whether they are to blame for their lack of improvement.

Have you ever found yourself in one of the two situations described above? If you have, the good news is:
You are NOT to blame! And… you are far from alone!

Over 90% of students of second languages, not just Spanish, feel exactly the same way.

Why is this so?

Simply because the MAIN teaching methodologies currently used worldwide, even on the Internet, are WAY OUTDATED!

They simply reproduce teaching models that were in vogue over 100 years ago but in a digital format.

Does this sound difficult to believe? Read on.

Almost EVERY single course available on the market today is rooted in the GRAMMAR TRANSLATION METHOD of second language acquisition.

This method started to be used in the 1890’s and it consisted mainly of explanations of grammatical rules, some sample sentences, and lots of exercise drills to practice the new structures. Does this sound familiar?

This system was mostly used to learn to translate Classical Greek or Latin into other languages and it offered little opportunity for real second-language acquisition or should we say “offers”?

It may be acceptable to learn dead tongues but it will be of no use to you if you want to learn to communicate in Spanish effectively.

This clearly shows you why no matter how hard you may have tried, you have been unable to learn Spanish. It is NOT your fault. It is the methodology used; it is the course providers’ fault! Not Yours!

Who can put the blame on you if so far you have been prepared for a reality that does not exist outside the classroom?

After all, as we have seen in our previous mini-articles, children acquire their native language easily and effectively, without boring and repetitive grammar and vocabulary drills, without sentences or structures in isolation, so why should you do that to learn a second language? However, language courses force you to do that time and again.

Worst of all, the language that is shown to you has been simplified to such an extent that if you showed the study materials to a native speaker s/he won’t be able to help sniggering.

Students are presented with unreal and unnaturally simplified samples of Spanish that no one ever uses. In real life, that is NOT how language acquisition occurs!!!

You are NOT to blame!!! How come you be expected to communicate effectively if you’ve never been given a single chance to communicate or to be exposed to REAL language, just as it is spoken worldwide.

Imagine a pilot-to-be whose only experience in flights has been in flight simulators. Would he be nominated for flying an airline’s top commercial airplane? Would YOU like to be on that flight? Would you like your family and beloved ones to be there with you? I definitely wouldn’t.

Just because a person practices and practices and practices in an unreal or controlled situation does not mean that s/he will be able to succeed in a real-life situation. Now see this analogy in language courses.

Language students are obliged to repeat words, phrases and sentences in a parrot-like fashion, they are forced to do grammar exercises, repetition drills just to “hammer the structures into their heads” and they are never ever given a real chance to interact even with another person in a real setting. Would you expect them to use language effectively if real communicative needs arise? Of course not! Most likely they will dry up and be unable to say a word! But it is NOT their fault! They are just the expected result of a bad product.

Having identified the problem, the solution is just one step ahead. But that will be the main topic of our new article on Second Language Learning.

Julio Foppoli is a teacher of English as a Second Language and a teacher of Spanish as a Second Language. He is the creator and owner of http://www.esaudio.net/Spanish/online_classes.html, an online educational website with a technological edge, specialized in the teaching of Spanish as second language via audio-conference to native speakers of English from all over the world.

The website offers free listening comprehension activities with Spanish from all of the Spanish speaking world.

Blood Pressure: An Overview

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

What is Blood Pressure?

Blood pressure is a measurement of the pressure exerted by the circulating blood on the walls of the arteries, veins and chambers of the heart. The pressure of blood is measured in the context of systolic and diastolic activities. When the ventricles in the heart contract, it is termed as a systolic activity, while the relaxing ventricles mark a diastolic activity.

The pressure of blood is highest during the systole activity and lowest during the diastole activity. The unit of measuring blood pressure is millimeters. A normal blood pressure reading is 120/80 mmHg.

A normal healthy person maintains the blood pressure reading of 120/80 mmHg. A deviation from this normal reading can result in a blood pressure disorder. There are basically two abnormal conditions of blood pressure. They are known as high blood pressure or hypertension and low blood pressure or hypotension.

High Blood Pressure/ Hypertension

A person is known to suffer from high blood pressure when their measurement of blood pressure increases over that of a normal reading. A normal blood pressure is 120/80 mmHg. When this blood pressure increases to, say 140/ 90 mmHg, the person is known to have high blood pressure.

High blood pressure is often termed as ‘a silent killer’. You might be suffering from a high blood pressure for a long period of time and not know it at all. When a person develops high blood pressure, it usually lasts for lifetime.

Why High Blood Pressure?

Your heart pumps the blood and supplies it to the various organs of your body via arteries. The arteries, when leaving your heart, narrow into arterioles. The arterioles further narrow themselves into capillaries. These capillaries supply oxygen and nutrients to the various body organs.

Due to certain nerve impulses, the arteries become dilated or contracted. If the arteries become contracted, the passage of blood is hampered and it increases the pressure of blood. The condition causes high blood pressure or hypertension. This condition strains your heart and can even damage your blood vessels. If the vessels get damaged, the blood supply can further affect various body organs connected to the damaged vessels.

The human body generally bears and handles this sudden increase of pressure for a long period of time. This is one of the sole reasons for the fact that you can live your whole life, without any ill-effects or symptoms, from high blood pressure.

Two Forms of High Blood Pressure

There are two forms of high blood pressure, essential hypertension and secondary hypertension. Around 95 % of hypertension cases are related to essential hypertension. The cause of essential hypertension is multifold though.

There are several factors which result in essential hypertension. One of the major factors is high salt intake. Other factors that can contribute to the cause of essential hypertension are tobacco smoking, alcohol abuse, obesity, diabetes mellitus, a sedentary lifestyle and genetic causes.

Secondary hypertension amounts to at least 5 % of the cases of hypertension. The factors contributing to secondary hypertension are pregnancy, a slow pulse, drugs, kidney diseases, certain types of cancers, malformed aorta and aortic vale disease.

High blood pressure largely remains undetected in its first stage of occurrence. A person would probably never know about it. But if the condition of high blood pressure prolongs, it can cause serious damages to the various body organs. High blood pressure can directly affect the person in the form of kidney failure, congestive heart failure or heart attack.

Low Blood Pressure/ Hypotension

In the medical terms, low blood pressure is called hypotension. A person is said to have low blood pressure disorder, if his blood pressure falls below the normal reading of 120/80 mmHg.

Why Low Blood Pressure?

There are many causes of low blood pressure. Among the common cause include acute illness. The condition can be characterized with the symptoms such as severe blood loss, infection, fluid loss or damage to the heart. The age-factor plays an important role in low blood pressure. Increasing age causes your arteries to stiffen and cause a drop in the pressure of blood.

Damage to adrenal glands can also lead to low blood pressure conditions. Damage to adrenal glands affects the production of aldosterone in your body. This hormone controls the salt amounts in the body. If the aldosterone hormone gets affected, it leads to the loss of salt from your body, further resulting in low blood pressure. This causes dizziness when you stand up. Low blood pressure can also be caused due to the usage of diuretics.

A person with low blood pressure shows symptoms of chest pain, headache, prolonged diarrhea or vomiting. The person also suffers from burning sensation while urination, stiff neck, high fever and irregular heartbeat. The person, at times, suffers from shortness of breath and a cough with phlegm.

Normal is healthy!

Neither high blood pressure, nor low blood pressure is good for your body and health. You should get your blood pressure checked regularly for either of these two disorders. The proper treatment and control of your blood pressure will definitely enable you to live a healthy and happy life!

Five Tips for Writing Eyeball-Grabbing Headlines

Friday, August 8th, 2008

If you made it this far, the headline for this story has caught your attention. Hot headlines are a hit with readers because they stick out, grab attention and urge them to read the rest of the story.

We’re all experiencing information overload and have made it a habit to skim pages. According to David Ogilvy, a successful advertising writer, “Five times as many people read the headlines as read the body copy.” Sounds like we need to treat those headlines like trying to get our foot in the door.

It doesn’t matter if you’re writing a sales letter, Web page content, email, or an article. Pulling together a handful of powerful words and putting them ahead of the content is more likely to grab eyeballs than just going right into the story, letter, or content.

Despite our success with newsletters, we continue to learn how to add more punch when writing headlines. Here are the tips we have learned and try to apply:

  1. “What does the reader get from this?” The answer to your question can be the baseline for the headline. From there, modify it to ensure it has easily understood and expressive words. This addresses the “What’s in it for me?” question. You can almost never go wrong with headlines that convey reader benefit.

  2. Keep It Short and Simple (KISS). It continues to hold true even with headlines. If it is too long, the reader isn’t going to be able to swallow it with one gulp and will move on before figuring it out.

Try summarizing the content in 10 words or less and make it your benchmark. Play with it until you come up with something snappy without being unbelievable. Another way to go about it is to treat headlines like a billboard. Speeding cars make it easy to overlook the billboard’s message, so it better be short and simple.

  3. Be diverse. Often, I find that many headlines from a source sound repetitive since they repeatedly use the same type words and phrases. If you’re out of ideas, use a thesaurus to help you find new words. Another option is to search for keywords in the content and use them.
  4. Believable. When I see a headline that sounds “too good to be true,” it immediately looks and feels like “spam” and it’s trashed or skipped over.
  5. Emotional. Headlines that make a reader excited, scared, or curious produce better results because they prompt action. Write in the first or second person with present tense verbs to make such headlines urge people to take instant action.

If you have the luxury of conducting a headline test and getting a report of results, then send out your content to half of your test audience with one headline and the other half with the other headline. Review the report to see how many actually read the story for each headline and compare.

Another option is to have your colleagues review several headlines and pick which works better.

Work smarter not harder when writing headlines and make a whizbang first impression. Expend as much energy in the headline as you do writing the rest of the content. If that doesn’t happen, then few will read beyond the headline. Here are some typical words to help you get rolling:

Advice… Facts… Last Minute… Save… Amazing… Finally… Secrets… Announcing… Free… Luxury… Security… At Last… Growth… New… Show Me… Bargains… Hate… Obsession… Breakthrough… Here… Only… Share… How Much… Protect… The Truth Of… Discover… How To… Rewards… Yes… Do You… How Would… Sale… You… # Tips… # Ways… Don’t Buy… Don’t Spend…

There is no rule that says headlines have to be dull, flat, or full of technical jargon to ensure professionalism. Go have a ball writing headlines.

Why Do Duct Cleaning Prices Differ So Much?

Friday, August 8th, 2008

Many customers wonder why Duct cleaning company A charges $150.00 for their service, while Duct cleaning company B is charging $500.00 for the same service.

From my many years of experience I have found that most companies such as company A, that charge a very low price, will typically try to up sell extra services once they are in your home or they will simply do a very poor job in a short period of time, these extra services may include things like

-Creating extra access holes

-Cleaning the A/C coils

-Cleaning the furnace conveyance compartment

-inspecting the humidifier

-Applying a system sanitizer

-cleaning the air cleaner

-doing a carbon monoxide test

and the list goes on….

Companies such as Company B that charge a hefty price, are often companies that are subcontracting their services out, in other words you may think that you are hiring that “Big Department Store Chain” when in actual fact they are subcontracting their work out to other duct cleaning companies.

Companies that operate in this fashion are typically more expensive because there are several people sharing a piece of the same pie.

Other reasons may simply be that the company has a large overhead with several employees, therefore they must inflate their prices to cover their expenses.

The fact that we are an independently owned and operated company means that we have a low overhead and can in turn pass that savings along to our customers.

We believe that offering a full comprehensive service combined with quality workmanship at a fair price, will continue to keep us at the forefront of this industry.

Debt Reduction Solutions

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

Finding solutions to reducing your debt takes some thinking and research on your part. You have some good choices available to you and we shall list these key debt reduction solutions for you right here:

1. Home Equity Loan or Home Equity Line of Credit. Your 21% charge card can be reduced to nearly 6% over night. How? By taking out a line of credit or equity loan against your home. Equity loans and lines of credit are available at low rates and banks are very willing to extend this service to you as your home is your collateral. Pay off all of your credit card debt with the loan and you will achieve debt reduction solutions immediately.

2. Replace high interest credit cards with low interest cards. Yes, in this day of low interest rates, many credit cards carry high interest rates. Ask your credit card issuer to reduce their rate closer to market rates. If they refuse to budge, consider applying for a low interest rate card from another provider. Transfer your balance to the provider offering the best rate.

3. Debt reduction solutions can be realized through the selling of other assets including: an extra car, antiques, jewelry, extra property, renting out property, or liquidating some other assets. Check around your home and see if there is something that you owe that can be sold on eBay or locally at a yard sale. Take the proceeds from your sale and pay down your debt, starting with the biggest debt first.

4. If you do not owe a home, or the home you do own has negligible equity built up then you cannot get equity from your home. Still, depending on your income, you may be eligible for mortgage refinancing below market rates. Check with your bank or local housing authority to see if you qualify for a low or moderate income loan. The savings you realize through reduced mortgage payments may help you pay down your debt.

Finding debt reduction solutions that work for you is an important first step in eliminating debt. Make a plan and stick with it and you will soon be living a debt free/care free life.
