Pole Vaulting Poles Made of Nanotubes

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

Any Track and Field Pole Vaulting can tell you the problem of poles breaking. But imaging a flexible material stronger than steal by fifty times, a material flexible that you could put any amount of human energy you could muster from running a full speed and jamming it down into a little box, without worry of it breaking. You would have the trust to go beyond limits of current records.

In fact as such a material was introduced to the sport of pole vaulting all records would shattered in a couple of years. No world record from any Olympics previously run could hold. The safety of the sport would be vastly improved and the heights of the vaults would be at least a third higher.

Even us novice pole-vaulters would see an immediate improvement and the rush of the experience of thrusting into the air on a single pound. With the improved safety and the decreased injury rates the competition would be even more intense and thus improving the sports records even more. The current pole vault poles are dangerous and break too often and do not provide the proper level of comfort needed to push the limits of the human athletic ability and levels we can achieve with Pole Vaulting Poles made of Nanotubes. Think on this.

Baseball Hat – The History & Future of the World’s Most Popular Hat

Sunday, May 10th, 2009

Baseball is one of the most popular sports in the United States of America, and continues to gain popularity across the world for the exciting sport it is. The one thing which baseball spawned however was a trend which will never be outgrown by the actual sport. It is used by people from all countries, young people, old people, even people who hate baseball. It is the baseball hat!

Baseball hats were first used in 1860 by the Brooklyn Excelsior’s baseball team. At the time every other team wore hats of all types or not at all. Ninety-Four years later by the New Era hat company the 59Fifty baseball hat became the officially designed and adopted hat for baseball players. They stayed on your head, and the bill kept the sun out of your eyes. They were the ultimate hat!

Their practicality and usability for normal people for everyday life was quickly realised and the market spread far further than the baseball field and right across the United States of America and then worldwide. They are a hat for everybody, with the guy on the street wearing them and film stars and even the president. You would be hard-pressed to find one person on the planet who hasn’t worn a baseball cap on at least one occasion.

Baseball hats, although having millions of varieties and designs have never strayed too far from their original design and are the longest-running style hat ever. In a day and age where everything is constantly been bettered, we are yet to see a hat replace the baseball hat in both style and practicality.

Please visit our website for more information on the Baseball Hat and many other styles of hat.

First Ironman and You Didn’t Finish

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

So you tried the Ironman and didn’t reach that finish line.

First of all, I don’t believe there is any such thing as failing in the Ironman.

You most likely went through a lot just to reach the start line and that in itself is quite an accomplishment. Not just anyone is willing to stand on that beach and wait for the starting gun.

It takes a special person to face the doubts and fears that come with the ironman challenge.

You probably worked yourself into the best shape of your life just to take your shot at one of the most difficult endurance races in the world. You no doubt earned a lot of respect from those around you who watched as you took up the challenge.

There’s lots of reasons why an Ironman race might not work out as you hoped. Possibly you didn’t eat and drink properly in that final week. Or maybe you simply overtrained and left your best race out on your favorite bike route back home. If you have even the smallest injury, the Ironman will magnify it, so its extremely important that you’re a 100% going into the race.

Some people tend to become very depressed when the race doesn’t turn out as they hoped. They go home wondering how they will explain this to everyone who asks them how the Ironman went.

You don’t really owe explanations to anyone, but if you must answer, there is one best answer.

“The Ironman is a tough race. That’s what makes it special. If it was that easy, where would the challenge be?”

Hopefully at that point, you tell that person you intend to try as many times as it takes to reach that finish line.

If anything, not reaching the finish line the first time, or several times you try the Ironman, should be incentive to return until you succeed.

Consider the races where you came up a bit short a learning experience that will help propel you to the finish line the next time.

I had an email a few weeks ago from an athlete who had failed five times to reach the finish line and attempted his sixth in the past week.

Well, I saw his name on the finishers list. Now to me, he is the true definition of an Ironman.

I can only image the huge amount of satisfaction he must feel today.

My name is Ray and I have spent over 25 years involved in endurance sports including 14 Ironman Triathlons.

As a way to give back to the Ironman, I have created a site full of racing and traing tips for the novice ironman.

The name of my site is “Ironstruck”. The address is =>http://www.triathlon-ironman-myfirstironman-ironstruck.com

Is Federer all Alone in his Style of Play? (Part I)

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

Everyone is marvelled at Federer’s fantastic record but it is no surprise if you think not too far back at Pete Sampras dominance and John McEnroe’s, who also played great all round games.
One of the characteristics that separates these players from others is their uncanny ability to perform at their best under extreme pressure and win the “big points” especially at the “Big Four” (the Grand Slams).

They all have or had big weapons, the courage and clarity of mind to use them when they most needed them or when they mentally, would/will do the greatest damage to their opponents .

For example, in the last US Open Bjrn Borg played, John McEnroeused his creativity as one of his weapons against Borg.

The match was at a very tight crucial moment with Borg realizing that he would not win from the baseline and feeling pressured to come to the net. Borg did just that with a great approach shot up the line to John’s forehand, which McEnroe responded with a weak cross court passing, Borg volleyed solid up the line for what should have been a winner and moved in closer to the net for the kill. McEnroe somehow managed to get to the ball and strike an incredible backhand topspin lob over the head of a surprised, flat footed, stunned Bjorn Borg! After that there were many interesting points in that match, but that lob took the soul out of Borg and showed him that all doors to US Open heaven were shut! When Borg walked back to the baseline he knew he had lost the match and not much long after that tournament he retired from professional tennis.

Pete Sampras did the same kind of mental damage during his vomiting session to Coretja at the US Open 96, in his crying session to Courier at the Australian Open 95 and in a number of different occasions to the likes of Ivan Lendl, Boris Becker, Agassi, Rafter, Henman and others.
Petes greatest weapon was his second serve, you may say, “What about the first?” Pete’s second serve was what allowed him to go left and right for aces with his first serve at the “big points”. So sure he was that he would not miss his second service as well as of the quality of it, that he had no fear of his opponents return! This great confidence in his second service, allowed him the luxury to even ace his challengers with his second service in the climax of pressure. Needless to say, this was disheartening, frustrating and mind boggling to his despondent adversaries. Does Federer show flashes of the same?

In 1990 in Milano watching Pete, I saw the begining of the effective use of such weapons, when Pete threatened Lendl into a 3rd set, which was continued in Philadelphia where he defeated a baffled Agassi shaking his head, changing from side to side barely touching a ball on the return. Two matches later there was more of the same in the final against Andres Gomez. At year’s end using similar tactics and weapons Pete culminated his season with the crown at the US Open.

Federer today with his “unique” game (a throw back to the 60’s and 70’s tennis) demonstrates that the all around game is a tremendous challenge for today’s players, because a large majority of them are totally inept at dealing with the short cross slice backhand as well as the low slice on their forehands (due to extreme grips), which makes them prey to attacks and winners! At his best Roger’s refined “repertoire” can drive the most stall worth Hewitt, Ferrero, Nalbandian, Gaudio, Gonzales, Nadal into submission, if not into total embarrassment!

This leaves a wide open question about how alone is Federer in his style of play in relation to the players of “remote” generations from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s? I will answer that in part 2 of this article. Enjoy “The Game”!

World Cup Goalkeepers – Fabien Barthez

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

Famous for his bald head, the son of a famous rugby player, 34-year-old Fabien Barthez is technically an excellent soccer player who could possibly have also made a career in an outfield position. Considered the top goalkeeper in France, he lost his place to Lyon’s Gregory Coupet after being banned for eight months (April-October 2005) for spitting at a referee.

A brawl erupted on the pitch after Marseille defender Frederic Dehu was sent off and the match was abandoned with 10 minutes left. Barthez, who had been substituted, got off the bench and confronted the referee. Fortunately for him, after long reflection, coach Raymond Domenech opted for the 77 times capped Barthez, who is also a veteran of the 1988 World Cup winning side.

It was reported in the French media that Domenech and his goalkeeper coach Bruno Martini chose Barthez over the 33-year-old Coupet because of his bigger experience at major events and his standing in the national team.

There is no doubt that Barthez can either be brilliant or sometimes a liability. When France won the World Cup in 1998, he only conceded two goals in seven games, but he has also made blunders, some of which were at club level for Manchester United.

Subsequent to the World Cup 1998, Barthez became a huge celebrity, almost a French equal of David Beckham.

Barthez started his career in professional football at Toulouse FC, joining Olympique Marseille in 1992 and winning the 1993 European Cup. He joined AS Monaco in 1995, winning the French League Championship and again in 2000.

Well known for his cavalier charges out of goal, he went on to join United for £7.8 million in May 2000, a British record for a goalkeeper, and won two Premiership titles at Old Trafford before returning to Marseille in August 2002 on loan. He quickly became a first choice during an exciting UEFA Cup run, securing a permanent move to his old club when he became a free agent in the summer of 2004.

“I just concentrate on myself. Since 1992, I’ve been playing for teams who enter a league season to win the title. I’ve had to question myself for almost the past 15 years,” said Barthez.

“I don’t think of the World Cup. I know everything goes fast, I know everything can change within 48 hours. That is why I have been focusing not only on my physical, but also mental training,” the former Manchester United goalkeeper said.

Barthez is France’s unquestioned starter in goal and, along with Zinedine Zidane, one of the most consistent pieces of the French team.

Obtaining Discount Sports Trainers on the Internet Today

Sunday, April 19th, 2009

Sports trainers is possibly the most imperative piece of equipment you will buy so it’s very important that you select the appropriate pair.

A great number of people don’t recognise that there are many differences in the way sports trainers support your feet. It’s not great for your feet if you participate in football or tennis in the same trainers you use for running.

“Unfortunately, 65% of the England’s recreational male athletes and women sportsmen wear the incorrect shoes for their elected sports activity,” he says. “Shoes are the most imperative piece of fitness kit you will ever buy and altering what you wear on your feet can prevent injuries.”

Football can put a lot of stress on the feet, in particular when playing on firm surfaces for example AstroTurf. The boots can also put pressure on your feet, & it is not strange for a footballer to suffer from corns, calluses or damaged, thickened and ingrown toenails. A excellent, well-fitted pair of football shoes is crucial & there shouldn’t be any signs of pressure on the foot after a game or training session.

Racquet sports: It is fundamental when playing racquet sports, for example tennis or squash, to select shoes exclusively intended for the purpose. These sports activity involve a great amount of right-to-left movement and jogging trainers won’t offer the appropriate solidity. Racquet sport trainers are heavier and more firm than jogging footwear, as their toes are engineered for stop-and-go action. Comfort is advised to be your main priority & it is important to swap your sports footwear repeatedly. Find superb deals on golf dvds online today.

Hill-walking is a terrific way to start off a calm fitness schedule, whereas the more adventurous go for hiking. It is tremendous for your cardiovascular health but is lower impact & so comes with reduced risk of damage.

3 Keys To Finding Your Natural Running Stride

Saturday, April 18th, 2009

When I think back to when I was at school, my worst nightmare was running. I hated it, even more than football and rugy which I don’t like even today. So I never thought that I’d be any good at running… until I found out the trick that I’m about to share with you now.

I realised that running was an important part of my cardio-vascular exercise, and that I needed to find a way to make it
a little bit easier for me. When I used the treadmill, I was getting way out of breath way too quickly (less than 10 minutes, and that included 3 minutes fast walk to warm up). And yet I could go on the rowing machine for 20 minutes and hardly even notice it.

So something was wrong with my running technique.

Not knowing what to try, I just varied everything I could: speed, incline, the length of my stride, the height of my stride, and so on.

And these are the three tricks to running that made the difference for me:

1. Don’t be afraid to INCREASE your speed!

I realised that I was actually running too slow! I’ve naturally got a long stride (I’m just over 6 foot tall), but when on the treadmill I was taking tiny little strides. Why? Because if I’d run at my normal stride, I would have run into the front of the machine.

By increasing the speed of the machine, I was able to stretch my stride out to a better length for me, which made my whole running style much more fluid, and therefore easier on me.

2. Don’t be afraid to INCREASE your incline!

If you aren’t using an incline when running, then you are effectively running downhill. This is because the tread itself is helping your legs’ motion, rather than you actually pushing yourself forward. Similarly, if you run downhill, it’s much easier because you don’t have to push yourself up in the air as much to gain the forward distance you need.

So add a little incline to you run – not much, just enough that you can feel the extra push. Not only does this simulate running on flat ground, it also makes your motion more natural. Running downhill and running on the flat produce variations in your stride that make you more or less efficient. So by increasing your incline, you induce a more natural style to you movements.

3. Remember to focus on your breathing.

The final key is related to the other two. As my stride increased, and my effort increased, I found that my rate and depth of breathing changed so that I took one full breath cycle for every 3 steps. And that felt more natural than previously.

Sorry that’s not a very scientific explanation, but “feeling natural” is about as best as it gets :-)

So there you go. Three keys to more efficient running, which you can experiment with. Some of this advice might sound odd (if you’re running out of breath quickly, why make the running harder?). But with the principle of finding a more efficient pace for your body, it makes sense.

And by the way, almost overnight I doubled my running from 10 minutes to 20, with no real problem, and over time I increased to 45 minutes with a couple of 1 minute breaks to stretch and drink water. I can go more, but I start to get bored and also run out of time at the gym!

Shop Online for Great Deals and Discounts on Some of Your Favorite Golf Clubs and Golf Equipment

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

There is no doubt about it; golf can be an expensive sport. One great way to keep your game the same but save some cash is to shop online for all of your golf clubs. While it can be really tempting to splurge at your local golf shop, you should hold out and even consider knockoff golf clubs or clone golf clubs. Many of these golf clubs work just as well as the real thing, but they can be up to a quarter of the price. Golf is a great game, but if you are looking for a way to make it more affordable, you can definitely do that by considering where and when you are buying golf clubs.

Shop Online

When you shop online you’ll find that you can find discount golf clubs in just about every brand. The great thing about this is that you don’t have to settle for knockoff golf clubs, but you get them at discount prices so that they are a bit more affordable. You may have to wait a bit longer than you want for new golf club sets, but in the end the money you save will be worth it. The money you save on discount golf clubs will allow you at some point to pay for custom golf clubs!

Don’t just shop online, shop around online. You’d be surprised to see the differences in the price of golf clubs at one website compared to the other. Many times a website will offer great savings or discount prices while another is offering just 1-2% off the original retail price. If you can save even $50 more, that is worth it, and money that you can put in your piggy bank for your future custom golf clubs!

Be in the Know

Another great thing about shopping online is that you will usually know when the new lines of golf clubs will be released. This will tip you off as to when you can save some money on last season’s golf clubs. Golf clubs are like anything else, they are updated from time to time, but there is nothing wrong with the past models. The past models is where you can save the money you want to save. When the new line comes out, you can save up to 50% off of the original retail price! You just can’t beat that, especially because these are brand name golf clubs we’re talking about, not knockoff golf clubs.

Next Best Thing

If you want to buy golf clubs right now and you don’t want to wait for a sale but you don’t want to pay for those really pretty clubs you’ve been looking at, clone golf clubs are the way to go. For most of the well-known brands there are clones that can be purchased for just a portion of the retail price. Size, weight, and feel of clone golf clubs truly can be compared to the real deal and can be so much alike that most golfers have a hard time telling the difference between the real thing and the clone. Clone golf clubs aren’t cheap, but they are a lot more affordable and are just for people that want their golf addiction to be a bit more affordable!

It’s important to remember that golf clubs do not have to break the bank. You can buy golf clubs online for a portion of the price that you may pay in your local pro shop. If you hold off and control your impulses you can save yourself a lot of money, and have just as much fun out there on the green.
